Hello all,
I ordered a 2024 F350 lariat 7.3l, when the order banks went live. This truck will be replacing my 2000 Chevy 2500, which I bought new in 1999 and currently has close to 300,000 miles on it. I tow a 10,000 lb bumper pull travel trailer.
I was given my paperwork with a priority code 80 and haven't heard anything from Ford yet. Fast forward to this week, and basically the same truck shows up at a local dealership, but it is a 23 that the buyer backed out of. Specs are identical down to color, only difference is sport appearance package on the 23 vs chrome on the 24.
Would you guys take the 23 or wait for the 24? Price is pretty close with the 23 being a few thousand cheaper.
Do you guys think they are going to fix any issues of the 23 with the 24?
I am also worried about receiving the 2024 in a timely manner, as the whole deal isn't very confidence inspiring and don't want to risk missing camping season next year. The part that is killing me is the thought of buying a 23 at the end of the model year.
Thanks everyone
priority code 80 is NOT a good order code if you actually want the truck... Thats a dealer stock code as far as I know... or a fleet code maybe.
Should be 10-19 for a retail sale code.
I would grab the 2023. Nothing for the 24 as far as I have heard is any different. Any "fixes" the 23 needs are software fixes not hardware.
yea I get the 2 recall's, but if this 23 truck can be sold it likely doesnt have the instrument cluster recall and if it doesnt have the sterling 10.5, it doesnt have that recall. Im guessing as a Lariat 7.3 its an 11.6 axle.
Close match, and if you like the sport vs chrome, grab it. With a strike looming, who knows what will happen with 24 production.
My wife was the reason we ordered the chrome package. When we went and looked at the 23 with the sport package, she liked the sport better. I'm not a huge fan of the black plastic grill, but do like the wheels more. Fixed running boards were also not my favorite, but I guess those 2 things are easily changed later.

I called the dealer about the 80 and was told it would change when they start production. Not sure if I believe that. Anyway I put a deposit on both and will probably take the 23. Thanks for the reply.

My 2024 order has a priority code of 19, and since the dealer entered my email I received the acknowledgement from Ford that it was placed.

I received the initial email the day of the deposit, but nothing since. I put a deposit on both trucks, and just trying to figure if the wait is worth risking it or not. Would really love to have a 24 at the beginning of the year. But not so sure that will happen.

FYI, Changing fixed running boards to automatic could set you back $2K.
I don't worry about the model year. The only difference between the trucks is a 23 vs a 24 on the front of the owners manual.
As far as resell, It doesn't look like you trade every year or two. What difference will a 23 vs 24 make if you run 300,000 miles on this truck. Both will be fully depreciated by then.
I pick my 23 up today. For me getting a Late in the model year 23 vs an early in the model year 24 means my truck won't seem to have exceptionally high mileage for the year. I run 3000 miles per month. So getting a 23 mean I'll have a truck thats only 3,000 to 6,000 more miles than a early arrival 24. And the couple thousand dollars cheaper sales price will just about offset that.

Thanks. Yea I'm in for the long haul. Hopefully this new truck will last half as long as the old Chevy.
If I was happy with the truck on the lot I would take it in a heartbeat rather than waiting on 24. If it’s missing something that’s a non-negotiable to me (such as different engine), I’d hold out.

The 23 really is pretty perfect. 99% sure that's what I'm getting, just wanted to see what others thought.
Thanks for the reply
