Tbear, the drag link has the stud and the pitman has the sleave, I think the sleave in the pitman arm must be worn out/enlarged. Gong to try to replace the pitman arm next.
hopefully I can get a pitman arm puller on loan from one of the auto parts stores
OH, I don't think I've seen a sleeve there in the pitman arm. Ones I've seen either had a tapered hole for the stud from a drag link' ball joint to fit, or had the ball joint and it's stud made with it, and the drag link had the tapered hole.

Sorry TBear. I am am not a wrench. "But I stayed in a Holliday Inn Express last night" Since I replaced everything except the Pitman Arm I am guessing that what ever the hole in the pitman arm is called, that's what the problem is.
I'll put a condom on the shaft thing from the drag link into the pitman arm hole for good measure. Best to practice safe mating between components. ;-)
Anyway here is to hoping that the correct taper in the hole in the new pitman arm fixes the issue!
Thanks for all the support!!!
Oh, I wasn't poking fun. I did go looking at google images for F-100 pitman arms to see if I missed something, like a tapered, maybe even split, adapter for a straight walled hole. Mechanics was not my avocation either, I just dabbled in the art.
Generally you'll find the ball joint studs like on tie rod ends, drag links, etc ... have a stud with a tapered portion that is drawn tightly into a tapered hole to eliminate unwanted slop. If you are seeing movement between the pitman arm and end of your drag link, 99% chance a ball joint is wore real bad. There is a slight chance that someone didn't tighten the nut on that stud nor put a kotter pin in it maybe ... as should be.
Those loaner tools .... take a credit card to put it on then when you return it, they'll credit it back. Didn't know if you knew.
