You just do not see many of them around.
I actually got it out this week. Took almost 100 pics of it as I have someone wanting it. I gave them a price, and we are $2,000 apart. I'm not budging lol

3 trucks in a 2 car garage and the garage has 2 single garage doors. It's tough getting the middle one in and out

These old classics are not going to get easier to find. The only thing that may bring prices down somewhat is a bad economy.

I cannot blame someone for wanting any of those trucks, especially the panel truck.

Went to a local hot rodder today and asked if they have any leads on a local alternator/starter rebuilder. He was nice and willing to talk but basically said "no".
Unbelievable, in a town of almost 400k.
He said he'd call next week if any leads came up. Closest shop is 100 miles away.

Two points:
1. I say having a stock truck is cheaper than building a hot rod truck if you start with a running unmolested stock truck. My 54 is like that. The longest it has sat unused was when I got it painted from June 1998 to August 99. I of course have replaced or rebuilt things as they wear out. But I think this is cheaper than building truck from the ground up with all modern components.

2. In my small town of 8400 and a county of 32000 we had 1 auto electric shop. The old guy rebuilt 2 starters for me and 1 generator and made numerous 00 cables.

He retired and sold the business to his skilled and knowledgeable but goofy employee. He closed the shop within a year and got a job for Fed Ex. He still rebuilds things out of his home but it is way out in the boonies and takes longer to get things done. And it's not for a lack of business. There was lots of farm tractor and gas well equipment around here needed work.

Here, in the Phoenix area, there used to be a huge place named Charlie Jones. They rebuilt carburetors and fuel systems. They had rows of mechanics rebuilding carburetors. Fuel injection put them out of business. There is still a place that rebuilds diesel injector pumps. I had my Ford 335 tractor injector pump rebuilt by them. I would much rather have my pump rebuilt than purchase a foreign aftermarket replacement piece of junk. This pump rebuild will hopefully last for another 40 plus years.

I sure miss GenStar. They were the folks that I had my alternators, generators and starters rebuilt by.
I can remember my grandfather taking me there when I was a kid, to have them rebuild items.

I feel I am very fortunate to live 100 miles from a metropolis with nearly 20 million people, a HUGE hot rodder community, and LOTS of money.

But on the other hand I really don't wanna drive 100 miles to pay someone $150 to rebuild my starter. I don't like my Chinese loud starter, but it only cost $70.
