So I just finished swapping my T170OD out for a T18 in my 85 f150 with the 4.9 and when I pulled the truck in the starter worked great, no issues. Finished the swap and put the starter back in, connected the battery, and nothing. It will crank and start with a jump pack, but just a click or nothing without. I put the battery on a charger to see if it was dead, but after half an hour it read 100%. Back in the truck and same issue. This is the 3rd starter I've gone through in 2 years, am I missing something? Can the efi manifolds heat it up and cause it to die quicker than stock headers? It never turned slowly, just 100% one day and nothing the next. Any and all help is appreciated, I'm just trying to fix this so I don't have to keep putting starters in every year! Thanks in advance
Check your cables, Sounds like a bad confection. Does the battery show voltage or have you load tested it? .
Okay yea I feel like an idiot. I checked after letting the truck sit for a day and the battery read 12.8 when off and 11.9 when running but 14.2 at the connector when running so its got to be a connection issue. I thought it was my starter because it acted the same way when the last one died
