i rescued some 15” rims from the scrap yard the other day, and am not sure what i am looking at. They were intended for my ‘66 f100, but am not sure what i have, besides two incomplete sets.
I have two 15” outtie type rims that measure 6 5/8” wide edge to edge.
i have three 15” innie type rims that measure 6 1/8” wide edge to edge.
both rims are 5 lug 5.5” bolt pattern.
What am i looking at, and what width is correct for my application?

thank you in advance for the education!
Posting photos is probably your best bet to have someone be able to identify what they came from.
Ford measured their wheels from inside the beads. The one with the tape measure looks like a 5.5" wide wheel which is what you want for the trucks. The cars came with narrower rims of 4" and 4.5" on some.

Thank you! Thats one of the pieces of info i needed, and i can now sound halfway intelligent.
so….
The three innie rims i have are 5 inches wide.
The outtie rims i have are 5.5 inches wide.
Am I totally wrong to run the innie rims on my ‘66? I presume they are still truck rims, not car rims?
I’ve been told they stopped the “bottle cap” style hubcaps (innie rims) in ‘65…..earlier based on the link posted earlier in the string….. i have a reprint of a Ford sales brochure from 1966….. has pictures of both types of hubcaps.
In 1966 the F250 and F350 series only came with Type 1 innie hubcaps. 1966 F100 had more options. They could come with either Type 1 innie or Type 2 outie hubcaps as well as Type 5 full wheel covers.
Here's a 1966 F100 2WD with the Type 5 full wheel covers. For the F100 4x4 they removed the centers on the front covers so the hub could protrude through the caps.
I had to pull out some 1966 F100 specific information I have but it shows that all the 15" truck wheels in that year were 5.5" wide. They did offer 5" wide wheels in a 16" diameter. But that .5" would not be easy for anyone to tell once you had tires mounted, however, it would likely limit the width of tire that you could use as well versus a 5.5" wide wheel, slightly.

awesome! Thank you for the detailed info! Precisely what i was looking for. Really appreciate the time you took on that!!!!!
seems like i wouldn’t be entirely right, but not entirely wrong either to put those 5” wide innie rims on….
good point about limited options on the tire sizes too…. That had not occurred to me yet.
i guess it is going to depend on if i find a 4th matching innie rim or 3 more outtie rims.
