Battery

I hear adding salt water to a battery & charging it reconditions a sulfated battery !!!
I wonder if vinegar will work also ???
Any of you smarter guys know any chemistry , if the vinegar will do any harm to the lead or act better against the corrosion with the plates inside ???????
What say you .......???

depends on the battery. If plates are depleted and gone, laying in the bottom, it's done.

If it was abused but has life left, then yes can be 'revived with high voltage charge profile. It already has all the acid it needs.

Thank-you Smoky for the reply ! I should add that as you say stuff in the bottom evidently is a deterrent . Also should add that to recondition a battery according to what I saw is to completely pour out all liquid . which includes stuff in bottom . Then fill with salt water & slow charge . Salt supposedly cleans the corrosion on the lead plates so it will be good to work again much better ! Then add battery acid/water and fully charge .
I ask wondering if anyone has tried this method or any chemist would comment.............or as your appreciated opinion !!!
Thank-you again !
I just paid $69.94 + core charge for a battery . I did not take time to try this method yet but plan to soon , I just thought vinegar might work better than salt........!!!

I dunno. Some people have revived old dead batteries that were not at life end. but would you trust that battery? not likely for a DD, but fine for a tractor or mower.

batteries use sulfuric acid. They come with the right amount for the life of the battery. Once you dump it out.. well it's a guessing game. dumping out the flakes can prevent a plate short, but the void at the bottom is at a certain height for a reason. Once it is full, the plates are very thin and end of life.

Batteries last only 2-3 years here in AZ. I have 16 vehicles & trailers with batteries seems at least one has a dead bat or flat tire. 1st world problems i guess.
