Has anybody done a Twin Traction Beam swap on a highboy? This pickup would be used for desert driving so the goal isn't to be strong more to be a smooth/ soft ride but keep the 4 wheel drive. I would most likely be buying desolate motorsports stage 3 long travel TTB kit if the swap isn't to much work. Their kit is made to be a bolt in for a 80-96 Bronco minus the engine crossover piece where you'd have to cut the inner fenders from what I've read.
I get Beardedcap's sentiment about stock TTBs... interesting idea but not great execution. what I think you are trying to do, there are TONS of dentsides with highly modified TTB set ups, but i don't think there is anything close to bolt on. there are so many differences in the frame shapes and widths forward of the cab from 73-79 it would be tough to market something like that. obviously not what you're looking for but for example battle borne brakes offers a superduty +05 axle swap kit and there are like 5-6 variations and all of them require some frame modification.
I think this would be an awesome build to follow, but i'm going to guess you need some decent fab skills to pull it off.
With todays world if you are involved in and accident no matter whose fault it is you could be in a world of hurt. Several years back I hit a deer, my own insurance company sent an adjuster. I parked it in the shed after accident still had deer hide sticking out from front of hood. That adjuster looked at everything. Tire size, tire date code, tread depth and pressure. Overall look in vehicle to check condition. Everything was stock and up to par and vehicle was clean. They look for just one thing to be out of place. Deer was determined to be at fault. If a person with a altered vehicle does damage to someone else oh man. I was on jury duty once, A woman was tapped on the rear bumper at a light, she had to quit work and go to physical therapy every day for 6 months and unable to ever work again. During jury selection we were showed pictures of the car and close ups of the rear bumper. It didn't have a scratch on it. Her lawyer asked me if I would have a problem believing that she was disabled for life. I said i would and was dismissed from selection. I was not the only one leaving, they had to call in a 2nd round of jurors. Sad world.

i hear this type of concern frequently and honestly most of what people tend to modify suspension wise on trucks makes them drive worse so there is plenty of reason to avoid modification... however, i really think this is over blown. the number of trucks with modified suspension and other than stock sized tires is insane. I know a guy who killed a girl who blew a stop sign when he hit her in his f250 that was lifted on 44's.
i obviously can't be sure, but i think a lot of people hear surface level information about the courts and base their legal understanding on that... like you could go to McDonald's and spill coffee on your lap and get millions because you can sue (and win) for any reason at all... but when what actually happened was that McDonald's purposely served their coffee at 195*f (way hotter than needed) to dissuade free refills in ****ty cups/ lids and the woman was burned so bad she was hospitalized for over a week, needed skin grafts and her daughter to help her move around her own home for another 3 weeks, was partially disabled from it for over 2 years and had permanent disfigurement. she also originally tried to settle for the 20k she had in medical bills and her daughter's lost wages which McDonald's refused.
there is no reason for this to be done in a dangerous way or any modification, but the idea that modifications can't be done safely or shouldn't because of increased liability... i guess i just disagree.
Have you ever driven something with a TTB? Also it would be a travesty to do that to a real high boy.
I have driven one truck that had TTB it was a aero nose service pickup and I only drove it maybe 5 miles. I was picking up another dentside down the prairie road.

My reasoning behind trying to make TTB work. If I were to go with independent without frame modification I'm not going to be able to get much travel and the a arms would be rather short. TIB is very popular in the desert world and TTB is basically the same thing just 4wd and I would imagine it would ride rather well just like TIB. I did come across a guy "Bradfield Racing" last night who races a F100 called Tiny Dancer with a solid axle in Class 2000 from what I've read. I think a setup like his would be a viable option for what I want todo with this highboy. I may even compete... Here is a image of his truck.

This truck most likely won't ever really hit the street and will be most likely trailered everywhere. At the moment it's a parts truck for my 4wd swapped Super Camper but I'm coming up with ideas for when I'm done restoring my Super Camper and my F100.

Oh that sucks hope that never happens with any of my trucks. I personally think tires bigger than 40" really shouldn't be on the road but I suppose that's up to the owner. I plan on putting 37" tires on my Super Camper and 35" tires on my F100 eventually.
Thought I’d pass on these guys too.. again for OBS, came up in another thread a few days ago, might give you more ideas or adapt…. They have you tube videos their TTB in operation.
