50k miles needed to replace shocks, $2400
I know how you feel. My dad bought one years back for $3500. Either the shocks (or struts) went out or the air compressor. Ended up sitting in front of their house for almost two years. Finally, my parents ended up donating it to charity for a good tax write-off. My dad always called it "The stinkin' Lincoln".
I'd have to say my 1983 Pontiac J2000 SW with 1.8l FI. It ate aluminum heads like they were going out of style.
I warped 2 in 17 months despite never having overheated the egine. It also ate timing belts, computers, etc.
Second on my list would be a 1989 GMC Safari 4.3L V-6. They were built in Peru and notorious for needing to be replaced just after the 50k mileage warrantee. Luckily, I paid for the 7 year 100k extension.
I also saw a 95 Dodge cargo van with a completley rotted-out floor.
2 words: water leaks. We have several Dodges with rust problems at work. All are hi-top vans (wheelchair lifts), & all leak where the hi-top meets the Dodge body. I've seen some cargo vans (usually company-owned) with the door seals danaged by cargo that leaked & rotted.

1 thru 3 i have never owned, i work at a dealership that sells these brands, and they are crap. i have driven pretty much every model the three manufacturers have however.
#4 was only expensive because i made it that way...
started out with a shifter, and 4:10 gears...then i added a vortech, and a custom chip. next a magnaflow exhaust system...then an 03 cobra fuel tank and dual pump setup...then an intercooler, then 19" wheels/tires, then bilstiens, lower control arms, subframe connectors, irridium plugs, 3k worth of stereo equipment...all said and done, i spent 17k after the 23k i paid for the car. i owned it for 10 months, and sold it for 22k.
ouch. my **** still hurts.
i will never do something so stupid again! (at least, i promise my wife that every day)
One of my buddies had a really s#!tty 74 GMC 3/4 ton pickup. That truck went through 3 motors and 4 trannies before he got rid of it. The steering had about 3/4 of a turn of play in the wheel. You had no hope of finding any of the gears without grinding them first. It had a rattle can gloss black paint job on it, and it would pass anything but a gas station!
Well, I know of quite a few POS cars. My buddy's 1986 Firechicken, a 1989 probe, and 1994 Chubby half ton. The firechicken is on it's 6th!!!! 2.8 that was prfoessionally rebuilt.
The probe kept losing it's taillights and just blew up the front discs and sheared a fuel line.
The big GM half ton (named the Messiah...lmao) anyways, the torque converter kept falling off, the tranny had a knock and so did the old 350. Had big problems with the dash shaking...it was a fun truck though...
94 Olds Cutlass Supreme didnt break often, but big ticket items when it did go bad.
96 Grand Am didnt cost much to fix, just needed fixin all the time.
I've had 3 Cavaliers. '84 had 238,000 miles when I parked it. My '86 Z24 traded for a truck. Had a '94 that I really liked, but lost it when some cotton top guy from Fla. hit me head on.
My favorite car, "Peppy, my little mule." I love my truck, even when sick.
1970 VW bus. Junk. Clutch, throttle cable, transmission. And that was all in the first month. I raced a turtle in it once and would have won if the tranny didn't lunch.
I am very lucky because I have never needed to put up with a crappy vehicle. I did own a Ford probe for a while, but I sold it after I got it fixed up. I also owned an AMC Eagle for hunting. I broke an a-arm and eventually overheated and ruined the motor, but both breakdowns were my fault. My old GMC pickup has had carburator troubles since my dad let me have it, but it is still great for being a 25 year old ranch pickup.
