VIN Decode

VIN Decode
TL;DR - VIN = *X31XED46061*
Hey, everyone. I bought this supposed 1999 one-ton chassis for my dentside Powerstroke project a few weeks ago. When purchased, the surface rust was too heavy to see the VIN. However, seeing the engine crossmember “cradle” along with the D50 and 10.50 diff covers, I felt confident in buying it. Now that I am cleaning it up I found the VIN dot-stamped into the top of the passenger side frame like it should be. I was happy to see the “X31” bit of it but the rest of it isn’t making much sense to me when I read through various VIN decoding resources.
Thanks in advance,
Tyler

Thank you for the response but that does not add up to what is stamped into my frame. It’s like I’m missing the two digits after “X31”.
What I can come up with is as follows:
- X31 - F350 4x4 SuperCab SRW
- X - ?
- E - Check digit
- D - Ohio plant
Anything I can find on an “X” engine code shows a 4.0 gas sixxer, which I don’t think would’ve been offered on a Super Duty. A quick internet search confirms but even on a fluke, I don’t see them having that as an option for a one-ton.
so if there are two digits missing then it makes sense.
- x31 - F350
- blank -
- blank -
- x - 1999
- e - Kentucky plant
- d##### - sequence number

AFAIK in order to register any subsequent assembled vehicle, OP will need to prove ownership. He should have gotten a title with the rolling chassis.
Otherwise, is it stolen? A salvage item? Have a lien on it?
You might be able to make a runner out of it and no one ever asks. You might also sink a small fortune into it and have it seized if it comes up stolen.

So I don’t really care what the numbers say, it’s for the simple curiosity of wanting to know what it is. If I can’t find out, for whatever reason, then so be it.
However, now I’m even more curious with the digits on the frame not adding up.
