Slightly larger tire?

My 06 X is mostly stock. I replaced the stupid high lift on it (it's 2wd, previous owner wasn't going four wheeling, he was mall crawling) with back to stock spec springs. Issue was the front coils are not exact. They couldn't find stock spec coils at the time so I ended up with slightly stiffer and taller coils, equivalent to slightly less than 2" lift. The rear I balanced out with 1" leaf spacer blocks. Anyhow, it's near stock and I have stock sized tires on it 265/75R16 (I tow an airstream, so wanted stock size). All that said, I'm thinking of going slightly larger on my next set of tires. Something equivalent to 33" diameter.

Has anyone put 285/75R16 tires on a stock X? Any issues with clearance at full turn?

Both my Ex's are four wheel drive, so may be different, but I've run 285/75/16 on them both for 20 years.

Oh, and I tow every day, skid steer and mini excavator. Also drug our 30' TT 6k miles over the Rockies and such a couple years ago, so no issues that I've noticed with towing. Mine are both 7.3 so 3.73 axles.

285’s will fit your wagon just fine without any rubbing, most larger tire rubbing issues, like my 35”s at full steering lock are rubbing on the front leaf springs, RWD rigs have more clearance due to the coil spring setup so you will be good to go.
Which motor does your ‘06…..? have? Is it one of the few Mexican ‘06s that migrated back into the States?

I have a 2000 2wd Ex with a 2" lift and tried 295 tires and they rubbed the front trailing arms so I went with 285 Cooper AT3's, great all season tires.

Good call on the tires

The Monster is rocking 285s too, they feel, ride, and look so much better.

What kind/size Airstream do you tow? We have a 28’ Flying Cloud. Our Ex is a 2WD 6.8. We swapped out gears to 4:56 and are running OEM wheels with the E rated 265 Michelins. Suspension is raised by F-350 springs. It does pretty good going from Atlanta to Florida or the foothills of Georgia. This next week we will be going northbound through the Appalachian Mountains, so this will be a good test.
That being said, I would not use OEM sized gears (3:73) and tow our 28.
I thought our engine was tired out at 200,000 miles so we replaced it with a Motorcraft Reman, installed Banks headers and a 5 Star tune. I didn’t notice much, if any, difference in performance with the 3:73. In other words, it was still a dog. Once we got the 4:56, it really came alive.
I would not go with larger size tires and tow without a gear change.

I've been running a 285/75/16 on both trucks including the wife's 00 Excursion 2wd for years with no rubbing issues. When I tow though, it's with my 00 F350 4wd. The last time it needed tires I notices the 16's seem to not have as many choices as in the past, so I decided to go to 18's on both trucks. For her Excursion, I installed 275/70/18 Goodyear Wrangler with Kevlar and have been happy. They fill up the fender wells nicely and also picked the truck up a little to boot...maybe 3/4". The 285/75/16 is just shy of 33" and the 275/70/18 is just over 33", while it's also a bit narrower. I put 295/70/18 on my F350 and would be willing to bet they'd clear on the Excursion...

Sry. That was a typo. '05. It's the 6.0 oil burner.

1978 Excella 500 31’. It does fine in the Sierra Nevada mtns. Not sure 285's would be too detrimental to how it tows...
