Pulled engine, what to do?

I just pulled the engine out of my truck to reseal the oil pan which was leaking. Now with the engine out and so easy to work on.... what else should I do? Not looking to do any major performance mods, mainly fix potential issues before they develop, and hopefully get rid of an evasive top end leak. Currently planning to replace glow plugs, reseal the oil cooler and weld in a dipstick adapter. Is there anything else you would do if you were me?

Bellowed up pipes if not already installed. Maybe exhaust manifold gaskets if you really want to be proactive. Any thing you think you might ever want to do turbo wise, cause pulling the turbo while the engine is between the rails isn't so bad. It's putting that heavy bi*ch back in that's no fun.

I think it may have bellowed up pipes from the previous owner... I'll check. Thank you!

I'd look real hard on the oil rail plugs on the back (and front) of each head.

Thank you. It's a 2003 F350 crew cab long bed. It's my first truck, bought is earlier this year and seems to run great besides these issues I'm working on getting fixed. I will definitely be doing the oil cooler reseal, someone mentioned I could do a fuel bowl delete... so I'm trying to decide between the two.

They can seep....but given that the newest 7.3 PSD is some 20 years old....and removing the plugs with the engine in-frame is exponentially more difficult....it's good PM...IMHO

if the engine were still in the truck, like my Suburban is, it can keep on seeping until the day I die.

I got a quote for $1200 to fix the Main Seal on my 'burb....
screw that, it only looses a quart of oil, once in a blue moon.

I’m not an advocate for deleting the bowl. It is at the highest point in the fuel system and effective in removing entrained air out through the FPR and back down the fuel return.

When it's not leaking. I kid, but really mine leaked all the time. I couldn't take it anymore that SOB had to go. Of course full disclosure my truck lives in one of the harshest environments on the planet, the oilfield. All the same if I had it all to do over again, it'd still be gone . The real estate is just phenomenal. Did you know I can go pop the hood, step up on the bumper and actually see the valley. No joke it's like right there..

Just got my motor back in from doing the same from a rusty pan. I did the pan, glow plugs, one valve cover from rust, new pedestal cause ebpv was leaky and not much more to buy new than rebuild, glow plugs, high pressure oil rail plugs for a couple seeps, 50 cent mod, oil cooler reseal, up pipes, manifolds, wicked wheel 2, 4" exhaust, ended up needing new flexible fuel lines, track bar (much easier with engine out), egt/trans temp/boost gauge(easy drilling when parts aren't installed). Oh did a ccv mod while I was at it too.

Welcome to FTE @Steve0373 . What is your budget? You might as well replace the oil pan since you are resealing it. Paint the exterior of it with a rust preventer of your choice before installing it. Also install a weld-in dipstick bung to save yourself headaches on that front. I will come back to edit this post as I think of more stuff.

Other things to do:
  1. Relocate GPR from valley to PS fender.
  2. If you don't get rid of the fuel bowl, rebuild it and replace all the o-rings, Parker seals, etc.
  3. Upgrade the TC/clutch.
  4. Install a T4/SXE kit.

It doesn’t look like it’s been mentioned, only use motorcraft parts from a reputable source. This is especially true of the glow plugs which the tips are known to break off others. Amazon/eBay has a lot of convincing fakes.
