Installing a trailer brake controller
I'm new here and could use the help.
Our truck does not have a trailer brake controller. Can I just have one installed at the dealer?
We've got a 2016 F150 and I've towed alot of small things with never a trailer with brakes. Trailer lights work, does that mean I have all the wiring I need?

Does your truck have the 7 pin connector at the back bumper? If so have someone press the brake and test for 12v on the brake pin in there.

Hello All,
I know this is an older thread but I was looking for help on a trailer brake controller issue on a 2019 F250. The gain control on the factory controller went down to zero when I pressed the "+", and now it wont move from zero. The trailer wiring harness under the truck looks clean (FWIW) as does the plug behind the 7 pin connector. Trailer brakes work when I apply 12v with PowerProbe (truck disconnected). Trailer lights work, and the truck recognizes the connected trailer. I tried connecting positive and negative at 7 pin to light bulb and applying the brake, but got nothing (not sure if that test would work anyway).
I also tried another trailer that I know doesnt have issues, and had the same problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
