2005 2wd shock question

Just bought an 05 V10 super cab with 128k miles. Bad clunking, rattling sound coming from front left. Shocks were said to have been recently replaced and seem to be doing their job but I think the rattle/clunk sound is from the shock. If I grab the shock, it seems the bottom is loose. (The right side shock isn't loose like that.) Can just the bushing and bolt be replaced, is it worth doing that over replacing the whole shock, and if so, where can I find the bushing?

I had a similar issue on my 99 4x4. New shocks and every bump a clunk. What I found is the OEM shock bolt slightly smaller OD than the shock bushing sleeve ID. I cranked down on the nut to basically pinch the sides of the shock bushing sleeve between the trucks shock mount to stop the noise. My thought...Fords metric hardware and both KYB and Gabriels SAE ID bushing make for a poor fit.

So I just went ahead and ordered two new shocks. Put them on today and found the main reason for the clunking.

Bushing all the way gone. Worse, these are obviously two different shocks of two different ages. I text the guy I bought it from and he said he paid someone to swap them out. I told him that only one was swapped and showed him this picture.

Anyways, 2 new shocks and less clunky noise. Sigh, yes, just less. Still hear something else clunking. Not as obvious but still annoying. Ordered sway bar end links and bushing as that's the next cheapest and easiest to replace.

The sway bar bushings would be a logical next step... along with the ball joints. If it's not necessarily a clunk under power, also check your U-joints and the yokes. One other place to look is the cab mount bushings... they very well may be deteriorated as well. The front of my '09 was actually banging on the frame... the bushings were completely gone.

You beat me to it on the shocks... I was going to suggest looking at the bushings. Ranchos (and others) very often have urethane bushings that don't wear out, but plain rubber ones, while quieter than urethane, hammer out, eventually.
