The recall part was supposed to be an improved part, so I would assume better but still a cheap factory part. Like the shocks that come on these trucks. I think even the recall damper has been superceded a couple times now. Hitachi was the maker of the recall part last time I looked (that was awhile back).
The original damper on mine was a twin tube damper, the recall replacement might be more like a gas charged monotube damper. Not sure since I went straight to the aftermarket part.
I suppose I could drive without the dampener for a bit so maybe I will take it off and if it doesn't do well in the test, buy a Bilstein and wait a couple days for it to come in.
I suggest replacing the OE steering stabilizer with a Bilstein. You should feel a noticeable difference in your steering. Or you can add a dual system and discard the single.
I used a PMF brackets with Bilstien dampers, Then added a Single to replace the OE single/ Feels good and looks nice IMO
The OE stabilizer I took off was a hitachi brand and had zero resistance with 5k miles on the truck.
My stock steering damper was totally shot and leaking oil at 27k miles. Ford replaced the defective damper under the recall. Supposedly this is an updated design.
At 60k I'll be looking for an aftermarket damper that can maybe handle Wisconsin roads.
