New to the forums recently bought a 2002 ford excursion with the v10 for less than 3k runs good other than a small oil leak I'll be fixing that soon, but what I need help with is when the engine is cold it has a ticking sound/ pinging when idling and when the rpms are raised once it gets up to temp it disappears seems to be coming from driver side as I can hear it when I roll my window down Any thoughts? I have a 4.6 3v and I've owned a couple 5.4 3v so I know the the story's.
when I get off work and figure out how to send videos I'll add it to the thread

Is the oil leak on the passenger side at the rear of the head?
Ours has a small leak there which drips onto the exhaust, burns and smells, but doesn't reach the ground.
I'm waiting until it gets worse, 40k and still waiting.
I've read it's the head gasket
If you are not sure the spark plugs were torqued to 20 ft/lbs or more, check/tighten them.
When we got our Ex it had 103k on the OEM plugs and blew #3 at 104k.
I was going to change them the next weekend.
An exhaust leak ticking can go away after things heat up, ours has 1 broken stud, but no ticking.
At one point ours was ticking and it would stop after warming up.
I had installed an SPD Y-pipe and one of the pipe connections was loose.
