This Super Duty I bought has 81k on it. While driving, I occasionally feel a pop/looseness through the steering wheel. It's very light/faint. But I can definitely detect it especially on a gravel road. The average person may not notice it. A truck enthusiast would. Almost feels like something in the front end is slightly loose. Someone on here suggested that I go under the truck and grease everything up. I went under the truck and found zero grease zerks. Nothing at all on the sway bar, drag link, tie rod, ball joints, etc. All appears to be non-serviceable joints.
Is this slight pop/looseness normal on these HD trucks? Or do I have something likely failing? Gosh I hope the ball joints are OK....absolutely cannot afford that right now.
So I was watching a video on the 2017 Super Duty when it was debuting, and the guy was talking about how Ford put an electric motor for steering assist inside the steering wheel. I had to rewind because I thought I misunderstood them, but there is a picture of it also. What in the world? I've never seen anything like that before. Is this on ALL Super Duty trucks?? Maybe this is why I've been feeling a looseness through the steering wheel.

It's called adaptive steering, does your truck have it? It was an option that would be listed on the window sticker.
Edit- it looks like you have an XLT, I don't think adaptive steering was available below the Lariat trim.
Is this a tapping your feeling in the steering wheel at lower speeds? Also feel it in the throttle pedal?
if thats what it is, your intermediate steering shaft and pass thru bushing at the firewall needs to be replaced.
There’s been a few threads on this, definitely something to check. The steering stabilizer could be shot, there was also a recall on those. Many have upgraded from stock. I had replaced mine with a Rancho 9000 before I ever got the recall notice.

That's what I was thinking. Feels like a steering shaft pop. Years ago I had a truck that had that issue commonly and guys would grease them up and reassemble and it would go away. Hmmm...

So did you actually crawl under and check things out, pop the hood and look at the steering shaft?
