Need to remove tranny from 49 F1 flathead V8. How difficult is this for DIY?

Not bad at all... just make sure you use a tranny jack or floor jack with a wood frame attached to it so it fits the shape of the tranny.

3-sp or 4-sp? The trans come out into the cab. The 3-sp is easy enough to lift out by looping a strap around it, the 4-sp you might want to use an engine hoist thru the passenger side door. With either you have to lift the rear of the trans to clear the crossmember.

You'll also need to brace the bell housing.
