f250 trans

What was the best manual trans for a 66 f250? New Process, Borg Warner or ???
Is there anthing else that will work on an FE that makes sense?

THe new Process 435 is a good tranny, I've had a few behind FE engines and never a problem. They are plentiful if you need one.

I have the NP435 and it works pretty well, although it is a truck transmission and shifts slowly and has less than optimal gear ratios. Like many others, I would like to have an o/d, but I'm put off by the cost of a NV4500 or a GV o/d. The option I'm now considering is a passenger car toploader with the truck-style tower shifter modification. No o/d, but better ratios and easier shifting.

What is a NV4500 or a GV? Are they an option?

The NV4500 is a 5 speed o/d trans used by GM and Dodge in recent years. The Gear Vendors o/d is an add-on unit that attaches to the rear of the transmission.

Will the NV4500 bolt up to the FE without too much trouble? What do those transmissions typically cost? Where can I find more info?
