Hi everyone, quick question, on an 86' f150 (was free) had to get rid of the bed, as was rotten, while doing so was going to replace the sending unit (carbed 4.9) I noticed the tank had holes rusted through the top,
16 gallon side tank short bed truck, no big deal to swap, but my question, i see a 19 gallon was available? is the three extra gallons worth it? what all do i need? different straps? sending unit? i have not found much online figured id ask.
Under the documentation tab on that, you may find what parts are needed.
If you need a Fuel Filler Hose, I have a "How To" for replacing, with info on where to get the correct hose the first time.
I would think you would want new parts for everything your doing. Also put anti-seize compound on all nuts and bolts.
19 gallon tank is too big and won't fit a shortbed. I have never actually tried to fit one, but the factory never offered a 19 gallon side tank for the shortbed trucks
The 19 gal tank will not fit where a 16 gal side tank is I tried and it will not fit between the frame cross members.
Guess what tank is what
Now my fix on my flare side was to use the rear dual tank from my parts truck that had a long bed style side on it.
The cross member just in front of the rear tank is different if it has a rear tank.
In my case both were 81 F100 trucks the wiring harnesses are different between dual and non-duel tank trucks.
I think you can run the needed wires for both the gauge(s) and the power to the valve and have it all work off the factory dash switch.
Other than that you could do away with the 16 side tank and add a 19 gal rear tank or they say there is a larger 38? gallon rear tank but you cant run the under tank spare tire with it.

ps you may want to rethink the more gallons come fill up time.
IIRC last fill up of both tanks was just about $90 @ $3.69 a gallon

That can come in handy sometimes. I live in Va, my daughter lives in Pa. Fuel prices are 40 to 50 cents higher in Pa. So it would be nice to be able to fill up at the northern border in Va and make it in and back out of Pa without having to buy fuel. I can't quite make it with my Tahoe. It has a 30 gallon tank on it.
