Fuel sending unit question

I have a new gas tank for my truck and need a new fuel sending unit as well.
Here comes the question. I wanted to know if there is any difference between a pre-feedback sending unit for a 300 and a feed back sending unit. Since i no longer have the feed back system i wondered if i could get away with the Pre-feedback sending unit.

Just look up a older truck and then your truck and see if the part numbers are the same. You can use autozone's or someone else's site to do it.

80-84 sending units are similar and use the smaller mounting hole, once you get to 85 the tank hole gets bigger. 86 is when the fun starts with more widespread use of EFI and in tank pump shenanigans.

Cruise through an LMC catalog, and you'll see just how many different senders are avail for these rigs, according to size of tank, location and year. To be honest, I don't think the feedback system had it's own special senders.

There are no differences between feedback and non-feedback.

However, along with the change in 1985 in the tanks and sending units...

The Front tank unit is different if it's 16.5 or 19 gallon.

If it's got EFI or not etc...

1987 and newer the sending units were changed yet again and will not work with our 1980-1986 fuel gauges.

What size tank or tanks do you have?
Long Bed: 19 gallons each tank
Short Bed: Front Tank 16.5, Rear tank: 19 gallons.
