Hello all. Trying to upgrade my 67' N700 361 FT to a 3G alternator from a 1G but have hit some issues. The wiring is straight forward enough, but before I even got to mounting the alternator to the engine I found that the pulley would not fit. Shaft length too short. This hasn't come up as an issue in my searches but I guess I missed something. I know I'll probably need a spacer behind the pulley, but there aren't even enough threads to reach through the pulley on the unit I got with it interfering with the case. I got an alternator for a 1994 mustang 5.0L as I read this is a good donor. This was wrong apparently. I thought that it may be that the FT pulley is different from the FE pulley, but I pulled one off my 360 FE and they are the same. Which vehicle should I get an alternator for to work with this conversion? A 1992 Taurus 3.0L( that's a large body alternator but different than the mustang unit)? A 1992 Taurus 3.8L( small body alternator)? Something else? I don't really know so any help or insight is appreciated. Tired of junk voltage regulators failing. 1G alternator with the original two v-belt pulley. Notice there is plenty of thread for the lock washer and nut. Two v-belt pulley on the 3G. Threads don't even extend to the surface. Different angle of 1G pulley on 3G alternator. 3G pulley next to 1G pulley Just to check, 3G pulley on 1G alternator. Too much shaft length.
