Guys and gals. Big question: I THINK I have a right hand chassis. Guy I bought it off says it was, but has since been converted to right hand with the addition of a Jag ifs.
Thing is, how do I know? My fear is it was a lhd truck and arrived here sans import approval.
Does anyone know whether trucks for export to our land of spiders and snakes were built in USA and shipped or did Australia make their own chassis?
My vin number says P (for Pennsylvania?) I'm guessing it's not P for Parramatta
Just don't want issues when lobbing up to the registry office and some tired old customer service officer says " where's your import approval?"
All I'm going on is previous owner's word. He tells me the cab was sourced in USA and I have a photo of it buried in mud in the bush without a chassis, so maybe she'll be right, mate. Any thoughts?
What year chassis are we talking about? The 56 in your sig? There is quite a difference in the range of this forum.
Pictures would help.
If you don't want to post the Serial number (we all have and so far no one has lost a truck) pm me and I'll try to sort it out for you.
It should be the frame stamping.
Tim
My Ford Australia literature doesn't go over decoding the vehicle/engine numbers or compliance plate.
Interestingly enough, if the second character in the number is P, that has a meaning in Canada's engine number as a 239 V8, 4 speed transmission, and passenger cam shaft.
Also, P is used to denote 1952 in some cases.
As I understand, most Australian Ford Trucks were built in Canada.
Not sure about your state of NSW , but here in Vic you need some proof of prior Aus registration or proof of import .
What you have is clearly an imported cab that has been converted to RHD , so you may be in strife if you cannot prove it's origins .
Best thing to do would be speak to the NSW registration people and see what they say before you spend any more on it .
The only assurance I have is when I did a REVS check. I entered VIN and state of Victoria (where the previous owner lives) it proceeded to the next screen and produced a report for me (which costs 26 bucks and the biggest rip off ever) and told me pretty much nothing. but it does say that it is a Truck and the Vin didn't seem to be rejected. It did say no encumberances and not written off. Just for s***s and giggles, I tried with a different state, ie NSW, and it wouldn't let me proceed.
