Cam phaser rattle
I have an occasional cold start rattle on my 11 ecoboost with 187k mes . Maybe lasts 2 seconds .
No performance or drivability issues .
I just looked through 14 million (exaggerating haha) posts about it and I see it's determined to be slack in the cam phasers, but I didn't find a clear and concise opinion on change it, leave it, solution etc.
What do you guys recommend? I saw a lot of posts said they did work and it didnt fix problem (now that could be I was In too old of a thread when they thought it was timing chain )
Any ideas and input are greatly appreciated! On a positive note I've had the truck for over 5 years and it has ran like a top zero engine issues . I have had this sound for a while and I just recently decided to look into it , I usually ignore things ha ! but I am changing my ways and trying to get better . 😎
Edit: just started the truck, about 5 days since last start. 52 degrees. Did not make the noise at all
IMHO, if one is lucky enough to get 200K - 250K out of an engine, I'm not so sure that it would be worth the money to make a repair vs an entire engine replacement.
In all seriousness I appreciate the input, and that is a wise way to look at it, you've got a good thing going if you hit 200k plus, and price of work to do cam phaser etc needs to be weighed against engine age and replacement cost.
It makes sense I'll keep an eye on it thank you !
