Looking for a 4.2L engine

Im looking to swap out my 3.8 for a 4.2. I was wondering if anybody here has taken theirs out for a larger 4.6 or 5.4 and has it sitting around mabey trying to get rid of it. Any help on finding one would be appreciated.
thanks,
-Brooks

its not that hard of a swap, cheap, engine external dimensions are exact, bolts right up, it looks like the same exact motor if you dont count the intake manifold. all im going to have to change is the flywheel, oil pan, crank pulley, and get my computer reprogramed and it will be a bolt on 35tq 15hp gain. not to mention i have heard of insane gains with a 216/227 cam on the 4.2's.

edit- when i say not that hard i mean a weekend project, mabey a little longer...

75 shot but it feels like 100. I think that our 6's take better to Nitrous then the 8's, just look at the torque gains they are insane. who ever said wussy whipped.

Whatever Im a bitch and I will always be on my bottle. Im curious if he thinks that because 8 second dragsters use alcohol and the 6 second use methenol? if they are wussy whipped as well since they dont use pump gas.

The reason for my shafted time is really poor grip, i was pulling a 14.1 @103 with 2.5sec 60' times, stock 3.27 gear, stock one tire fire open diff. I have a 8.8'' waiting to go in once i get back home with 3.27's and t-lok.

Nitrous is the only way to go.

Actually you have it all wrong there Brooks, and I'd watch my mouth if I were you.

First of all, I've raced plenty of guys who I had beat...then all of a sudden they touch a button and come back and beat me. I find that gay. All I'd have to do is go get the same NOS they use and race again. You are proving nothing with NOS in my opinion. Yes, I do agree it is the best bang for the buck you can get for acceleration and power, but you aren't proving anything. I think too many people watched 'The Fast & The Furious' and got hooked all of a sudden. I'm not saying I'm against it, but beating someone all motor is much more fulfilling in my opinion. Any old fart can go get some NOS and spray to beat someone.

Now then, in Tom's case it's a different story. He has a huge boat of truck that was never meant for racing so NOS would be the best way to go for him. But for me...a 5 speed single cab truck, let's just say NOS is last thing I'll ever do to my truck. So wussy whipped is actually a pretty good term to use Brooks.

Now then, about the swap...that sounds like a pretty good deal to me. I'd be interested in knowing how it works out. Keep us all posted man, and Welcome To FTE.

Everybody has own opinion, were past that

Ok lets stop the flaming and get back on track, it is my fault for bringing it up.

Does anybody know a good salvage yard at least? I dont particulalry like going there because I picked up my 8.8'' rear from one and they tryed to give me so much crap about how I should be paying 700$, and that I was stealing it for 350... I dont like dealing with them but if anybody knows of some honest ones in the northeast please let me know..

Anybody know of anyone, someone has to have swapped out their 4.2 for a larger v8. I hope?

In some earlier threads there were posts about asking how to or something. Check with those. Also, I hear the 3.8 is a single port, and the 4.2 isnt. That came up with the supercharging thread. Keep that in mind, I dunno if you were planning on that.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I'd have to do some major searching on that one. You may just have to buy the necessary upgrades to make it a 4.2. What kind of car do you have...or truck or whatever. Also, I would ask this question in the performance forums. They have some tech god's in there. Good luck, and I'll keep my eye out.

Thanks for the help guys.

You are right about the single ports, for the 94-98 model mustangs.

The 99-present mustangs use a split port set-up. In fact when I do get around to doing the swap, I will use the existing intake manifold from my car and bolt it directly on top of the 4.2 Block. They are interchangeable with my year.

Why not just stroke it, from what I hear its more work then doing the swap because you have to dissasemble the whole entire engine to put the 4.2 crank in it, also have to change the rods and the pistons.

Link doesn't work for some reason. Basically, you get either a Digital Camera and dl it too your photoshop, or get a throw away camera, get it put on a CD, and dl to your photoshop. From there you open your gallery and start your pics. Check my gallery out. My truck is actually just bone stock for now...so it's a lil' boring.
