so I may corrupted both my boys, they both have purchased 7.3’s. My oldest has a 97 that was sold to him for 500 not running. And has been a blast to trouble shoot. Everything from the IDM was stolen out of it, to needing a PCM. Then old fuel.
we have her running now, but we are pouring oil out of the tail pipe. My first thought was injector o rings, but this did not solve our problem, any thoughts??
Most likely turbo oil seals, time for a rebuild or replacement. But first make sure it's not residual oil from when you did injector O rings, takes at least 50+ mile of running it hard to burn all the oil out the exhaust.
if you have good compression, it will burn oil as fuel, turbo seals are shot most likely or an injector is leaking by which can cause hydro lock
is it smokey when first running? and firing on all 8?
we pulled the turbo and found oil coming up the up pipe passenger side? I am thinking I am going to pull the valve covers, pull the glow plugs, and find which spews oil while cranking over. Then replace that injector.

I have done the injector seals on my 99, and as you said, she ran blue for a while. This is oil coming out. Lol

what would you expect? I ask because if I am leaking through the injector, would I not see 3000lbs of compression?
I get the idea of looking at rings/ heads: head gaskets… but if it is blow through the injector?!
Could be a stuck open injector, allowing fuel to be dumped into the offending cylinder. Pin point which cylinder it is and go from there, and like Knotty said do a compression check as well, could be a more serious problem.
