I was able to get it to leak again after driving about half an hour between expressway and main roads. I checked it an hour or so after I turned it off since I didnt see any drips but came across what you see in the pictures. I think its coming from up top (the tank) but not entirely sure. I did have an issue where it was coming from around the cap after the repair. The mechanic told me that the lines on the new tank might be off and to run it a bit lower. I have for over a year with no issues. I drove the truck back home after a few hours and figured I would keep it running to see exactly where the leak was coming from and there was no longer a leak and all the drips were completely dry.

A couple of years ago, I decided that the hoses and tank were over 20 years old and I lost faith in how much longer they would last, so I replace every hose and the expansion tank with 100% Motorcraft. Brand new expansion tank sprang a leak right where yours is marked with the yellow dye, straight out of the seam. Bought the tank from the local Ford dealer, too. Took the truck back and showed the parts guy where it's leaking and they ordered me another one. Put it in and brought the other one back for exchange. Drove to Seattle. Found the new tank leaking again in the exact same spot. Bought an aftermarket tank, put it in and brought the Motorcraft tank back to the dealer with pictures of the battery looking much like the one in your picture. They both had a frown, but couldn't deny what they were seeing so they returned the money.

Do you remember what brand aftermarket tank you purchased? How long have you had the aftermarket one on? I'm thinking that might be my issue but I haven't been able to find the exact spot just yet if that's the case.

Sorry, I don't remember the brand. And the reciept is long gone. With that said, I'll probably be replacing this one soon, too because cracks are developing inside the upper half of the tank from the inside out. Not sure which brand I will end up getting. Wish I had kept the old one. It was still in perfect condition.
I'm not paying that much for a coolant tank! It's possible to make one out of plastic that is virtually indestructable. My original coolant tank, which I now wish I had kept, was one such example. The replacement tank looked like a clone of the first one, but it had to have had a bad production run because the two replacements both sprang leaks in the exact same spot at the seam. That may or may not have been corrected by now and the price for them was south of $150.00 IIRC.

I'm wit you! I'd make one out of a Clorox bottle before I paid that kind of money. And if it was a bad production run, it was one long bad run because I've heard that same leak story more times than I can remember.
Rock Auto seems to be the place to be. They have several options and from word of mouth, this might even be one instance where I'd consider Dorman, who I generally despise. But people have given this thing good reviews. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...eservoir,10457
