Well it’s my understanding that Chevy, Cummings, & Ford all use the same cp4 so I can’t fault Ford or correct that issue with another brand. To try and not have this happen again I am putting a DCR conversion pump in this time and its SUPPOSED to be a much better pump, fingers crossed.
I thought about buying another Superduty but they wouldn’t even take orders last I check
No, Ram HD’s only ran the CP4 for 2 years before they switched back to the steel CP3, and GMC switched to the Denso HP4 in 2017. There are multiple class action lawsuits in multiple states moving forward against all three manufacturers at this time. Allegedly, the lawsuits claim Bosch warned the manufacturers the pump was not suitable for ULSD. People write it off as some acceptably low failure rate (debatable), but people will probably be upset if it turns out to be true. Imagine if manufacturers ran it anyway knowing it wasn’t suited for the intended application just to save weight and cost. It could be the manufacturers have no responsibility to ensure any given component lasts outside the warranty period. The lawsuits will flesh the truth of that matter out. Ram ditched it fast, and they have a lift pump. The whole “GMC didn’t have a lift pump” isn’t the whole story. Ram is recalling them on their EcoDiesels with no current solution. They are hoping to have a fix by the end of the year. It could turn out to be a very big scandal if the allegations are true. The old saying is where there is smoke there is fire.
I'm surprised you haven't encountered the dreaded window molding coming loose. Mine did on both sides, a common occurrence on these trucks. Other then that not much on my 18 except for 3 recalls.
2017 6.7 here with 123k. Issues so far:
NOx sensor at 5kish miles - fixed under warranty
Upper oil pan leak - fixed at around 90k under warranty.
Did the Steering Stabilizer TSB/Warranty at the same time as the oil pan.
Got tired of the batteries leaking and replaced them with AGM's around 110k.
Sync 3 quirks - solved by resets occasionally.
Cleaned and added dielectric grease to the connectors by the spare tire as a precaution around 30k miles.
Just had the passenger side cab molding break - fixed with double sided tape.
I'll probably change the charge pipe with an S&B one in the next few months so it doesn't fail at an inopportune time.
That's it. I do oil changes every 7.5k with 5w/40 synthetic, fuel filters every 15k, and add Optilube XL to every tank. Other than the seat foam on the driver side breaking down, it runs and feels almost new.
