I want to put an electric fan on my 88 with a 302. It got a little warm in traffic and ac blows warm at idle. So can I get a push fan and put it in between the grille and the condenser? It’ll just mount with tabs that go through the fins?
Any recommendations on fans or brands to look at? I was gonna put it on the condenser because I figure if the fan on the engine is pulling through the radiator I could put one pushing through the condenser. I’ll just wire a switch to the dash and manually operate it. I’ll just tap into whatever wiring the P.O. has for the lights he put on so the fan can only run with the key on.
It’s got a shroud. But it still ran hotter in stop and go traffic not overheating, but I’d still like it to run cooler. So living in an area where that’s common and common for it to go over 100 in July and august I feel like it’s still a good idea to put an electric fan in to help.
I do believe the ac’s low, it’a got a leak I found while checking trans fluid, I touched the metal hose and it was cold and the rest of it was hot. And in that spot there were indents in the metal.
Or is that supposed to be there? I don’t think it is but may be wrong.
Was planning on replacing evaporator after summer ends
You found the orifice tube...the indents hold it in place. Supposed to go from hot to cold there. I am also considering an auxillary cooling fan in the front. My pickup has an external transmission cooler, so I need to look at it and see if I can have that fan help the trans cooler out as well.
Not sudden, I can look later for bubbles or gas in coolant. It just hasn’t gone through as intense of stop and go traffic in this heat yet since we’re in a heatwave where I’m at. It was still in the safe range for coolant temp. But I don’t want it to get that hot. It was around 105 out in the stop and go traffic.
In the winter bleeding the cooling system and stuff, there was never gasses or bubbles and I ran it 4 hours like that since I had to redo things in the cooling system multiple times.
I’ll count blades later, bought the truck not running in September and I don’t think it really ran well or did run for 2yrs before that.
So I have no way of knowing the history on its temps.
If you dont have a extra(real) temp gauge on it, dont trust the guessometer FORD, put on these trucks.
This here.
I put a temp gauge in the fins of my radiator by the inlet hose once upon a time. And the following is what Temps were according to the dash. N was roughly 195 O was 200ish R was 215 M and A were both 217 and L was almost 230. If 10 people checked theirs you would see 10 different readings from the dash. If you are so concerned, I recommend an aftermarket gauge.
I want to, but I’ve had to get everything functional. Cause that’ll cost me money to put on.
I still have to do drums, flush brakes, change diff fluid, and front rotors, pads and bearings, weatherstripping and felts. So I haven’t been able to really worry about that.
I haven’t had time to really work on it either. Eventually I’ll get one
It got hotter again in a drive through so I think it’s a priority to get a gauge for it now.
Actron Bosch SP0F000053 Style Line 2" Mechanical Water/Oil Temperature Gauge (Black Dial Face, Black Bezel) https://a.co/d/hT3LpZj
This is the gauge I had saved I’ll just take it out of that housing and mount it in the holes the guy made for the last set of gauges. Will this work for mine? I want the thing to be after the thermostat, but the housing doesn’t have a hole for it. Is there anywhere else to put it that will get accurate readings?
And that I won’t have to drain the coolant.
