stock shocks

Ok guys I am wondering if anyone has the length for stock shocks in 2001 f250 superduty 4x4 with the 5.4 engine. I want to know what the collapsed length is and the extended length. All the posts I have seen are saying which shocks to use and for this lift etc. I appreciate all that but I just want to know the lengths of the front and the rear without taking them off. Also would a f350 shocks fit? I am thinking they are the same but again maybe a diesel might be longer? Thanks. (Yes I have searched for the answers on here and on line in general. lol)

I have a 99 F250 4x4. The PO installed new KYB's and I was sure they were wrong as sitting they were almost fully collapsed. There was NO way the could fully extend even with the wheels off the ground. I did some digging and found on a few websites, Rockauto for one, they have the mfg's fully extended and collapsed lengths. Mind you for the same 99 none were exactly the same. I pulled the KYB's and sold them to a friend with a F350 dually 4x4 and they listed as the same shock for either truck.

The reason the lengths were listed differently for similar shocks is because most aftermarket manufacturers have one shock that fits multiple different vehicles. They're not gonna make 10 different "exact fit" shocks when one that's close enough will work on 10 different trucks. If you're using your truck to it's suspension limits, you'd be better off pulling out your shocks and actually measuring with the suspension fully compressed/extended to see what lengths you actually need. There's enough variation in stock spring setups that you could have a few inches difference wheel travel from the lightest to heaviest spring packs on a given truck. And i'm pretty sure "stock" shocks are used as a suspension limiting device and the stock suspension can travel even further than they allow.
