Does law enforcement have the capability to read your detector?

>> Yes, however the better radar detectors (such as the V1) are shielded so they cannot be detected.

>> My V1 is sensitive enough to also detect very bad "leaky" detectors.

I think there are only 2 or 3 states that outlaw radar detectors.

Valentine is tops - just from the directional capability alone! I don't understand why no other manufacturer has added
directional capability yet. When the average detector sounds off, you have to quickly visually scan 360 degrees to locate the threat - Valentine narrows your search giving you faster target aquisition, which can help you evaluate the threat level more quickly. I owned several other brands prior to the valentine, and I
would never go back to directionless detection again. The "number of Threats" indicator is also very valuable, and I don't believe anyone else has this capability yet either!

I beleive the dirrectional arrows is a patented idea from Mike Valentine, therefore others can't use it. I might be wrong, but this is what i read.

We recently did a 10 hour trip from Minneapolis to Indianapolis with a Valentine One. All I can say is that this detector is absolutely awesome. The directional indicator is a must have. And we got warnings well in advance. Very few false readings. This is an exceptional piece of electronic gear.

True - most radar is instant on, but that does not mean a detector is of no value. A good detector will sniff a reflection from a car being hit in front of you, giving you plenty of time to slow down/check your speed! On the road, if you get a beep, there is a cop ahead running radar - slow down! Of course, if theres' nobody in front of you, they'll nail you by the time your detector beeps. For Laser, use a K40-diffuser - it's tops too!!

Valentine One IMHO, is the best detector going. Living in VA, I used to carry a manila SASE to put my detector in just in case a trooper wanted to confiscate my it...trucker taught me that one. Never had to try it though.

I actually have an *extra* Escort S2, still sealed in the box, never been used or registered, that I am trying to sell. I've just been too lazy to get it on Ebay. I'll take $300 for it, including shipping in the US. Yes, it takes 2AA batteries, which normally last me about a month.

Email me if you're interested.

Just some info on the subject you may want to consider.

Yes, police can detect radar detectors, even the ones with VG-2 detection and the ones that are supposed to be invisible.

Yes, radar detectors can help you from getting tickets under certain conditions, such as when the car in front of you is getting hit with radar.

Most police officers will NOT issue warnings when they stop a car with a radar detector. Pretty much a guaranteed ticket.

Laser detectors will only pick up laser if it is directed at your car. The laser is so small, it will not detect it if it is directed at another car. Further, laser detector don't always pick up laser even if directed at your vehicle, again due to the size of the laser.

There are no devices that will reduce the speed shown on a laser. There are refractors that are supposed to eliminate the laser detecting a speed at all, but it only works if the laser happens to hit it. Typically front license plate cover. However the laser will read anywhere on the vehicle so not a guarantee.

The color of the vehicle or the material on the front of the vehicle does NOT affect the laser. Lasers will even pick up joggers speed, and they usually are not covered in metal.

Many police leave their radar on for the sole purpose of slowing down traffic. Works, doesn't it?

You can make up your mind on which detector, or if a detector should be purchased. Just thought I'd add a little info on the subject.
