need some info guys...i am looking at getting a f150 fx4...never owned a ford before, so i am excited about the purchase. my question is....does anyone know the first year that ford came out with the fx4 package and what the major differences are over the regular 4x4?
2002? shocks, nerf bars, a pretty sticker, and sometimes bigger tires, I know around here our dealers sometimes put on factory lifts.....haha they had a Fx4 with a 6 inch lift and 35s or 37s on warranty!
I do not think there is to terribly much, unless it is a 04 there might be soem more than I know of.
My 2003 Fx4 had the following options over a standard 4x4: skid plates, 17inch aluminum wheels, 3.73 limited slip, Rancho shocks.
Mine also has an aux transmission cooler but that is part of the towing package. Oddly, the nerf bars are not part of the FX4 package and must be purchased as an additional option.
in the case of the all new 04 truck. they have differentiated the FX4 more than in the past ( at least the interior)
the fx4 has a different instrument cluster and in the bucket seats case a center console with console shifter ( my 5 yr old son calls it the bulldozer lever!!) i think the seat trim fabric options are also different than say the XLT
as far as what fx4 trully stands for, i think different shock rates and skid plates under the oilpan and transfer case are all i know about (basically Fx4 is the offroad version of the 4x4)
