I would like to lead off by saying I’m sure someone has asked a similar question to this but I haven’t been able to find it. My issue is while running my sct x4 and uniden r7 both read 13.2 volts. Key off it’s around 12.5, key on not running is 11.7 and cranking drops to 11.2-11.4. I cleaned all the battery cables and the alternator cable (best I could without removing the alternator.) The main problem is if I put an multimeter on the batteries while the truck is running I get around 13.2 volts but putting the multimeter on the alternator and then grounding on the battery I get 13.7 to 13.9 volts which from what I’ve seen is more like the voltage I should be seeing so what would be making me drop the voltage from the alternator to the batteries? Do I need to remove the alternator and clean the connector better? The nut on that holds the on the alternator cable looked melted in spots from being arced out.
A 0.5v drop from the alternator to the battery is high. You can also put your meter leads on the alternator post to the battery-positive post to read the voltage drop directly.

Not unusual. The glow plugs and starter both have significant drawdowns.
It's not unusual to see a 0.5v drop from what you see on the SCT to the meter across the batteries.
Along with cleaning the lug and post at the alternator, there are many grounding points you could also go through.
