Good Morning all. I had an issue with the ignition lock on my 01 SD 5.4 XL. I was not able to remove the ignition. When I installed it I did not install the green snap washer (big mistake) and the bearing plate shifted. Nothing I tried worked so I resorted to drilling it out. I was able to remove the ignition cylinder but when I did everything, including the gear came out. Also, in the process drilled into the bearing plate so that has been replaced. I'm in process of installing the new lock but I'm concerned that the gear is not in the correct position. Does anyone know what that should be? Pictures, diagrams, number of teeth overlapped etc. Any and all assistance is appreciated.
Are you referring to installing the key cylinder or the gear that the key cylinder fits into?
If it’s the key cylinder, use a large screwdriver to rotate the gear until it reaches the crank position of the ignition switch, then release it so it rotates back to the run position under tension of the return spring inside the ignition switch. Verify the gear slot is at approximately 30* relative to the off position and it will be correct for the cylinder.
It's both. I drilled out the cylinder and when I pulled it all apart to clean it I did not check the position of the gear, which might have been incorrect. I like the process of putting the gear in and twisting it to confirm it's location after release. I think that's the piece I was missing. Be trying that tomorrow morning.

did you have any issues pulling the key out on the new lock cylinder once turned to off? I was able to get a new cylinder in and seated and use the key to crank but when I switch to off I cannot get the key out. Might this be the ignition switch? Steering lock is off and truck in park.
