Just picked up a new 2023 SuperDuty STX, and it comes with the all-in-one flip-out key fob thingy... which I detest. My 2009 has the security chip built into the key, and a separate fob for the doors... is it possible to have a key made by itself, with the chip locally in the key for the 2023?
It sounds trivial, but I work out of my truck. Something tells me this switchblade key thing isn't going to hold up to getting in and out, and starting the truck, 20-30 times a day.
Check with a local Ace Hardware if you have one. One of my locals has cut and programmed chip keys for me in the past, although not Ford. Much cheaper than a dealer. But I don't think every store offers the service.
I bought they key from them, they cut it and then plugged their computer into the OBD port to program it.
While you may dislike the switchblade key because it's big and clunky and maybe not so ergonomic, or whatever.... it's pretty durable and will hold up just fine. It took me a bit to become accustomed to mine because I was used to the separate key and fob arrangement. I like the feature that rolls down the window on a hot day but I still think it's way too big, folded or not.
