E4OD Trans Cooler Lines

So, I found out what lines underneath my truck that are bad turn out to be the A/T cooler lines. Whoever had my truck before me CUT into one of the lines and replaced part of that metal line with a rubber hose and hose clamps. It's LEAKING from there, along with the rear main seal. Has anyone replaced these lines? If so, I have been reading there's a special tool required to be able to mess with these lines....WHERE can I find the tool AND the lines? I looked on Rock Auto and I did not see them...I am trying to stay as inexpensive as possible for most of my repairs being a single mom....I already have to replace radiator, radiator hoses etc...brakes, suspension....basically everything. But I need to make sure that these lines aren't leaking anymore. The rear main seal is bad enough.

Before you start replacing the metal lines, try replacing the rubber hose part with new hose and new clamps. Put 2 clamps on each end of the rubber hose. Be advised you need hi-pressure hose, you cannot use vacuum hose or fuel line.

That's not the correct way of fixing it...that's a lazy person's way of doing a temporary fix to a problem that needs taken care of. I won't do that. I need the metal line that is cut.

You will need metal tubing, a tube bending tool and a flare tool. The tube benders are inexpensive. The flare tool can be rented/loaned by most big auto parts chain stores. Look up YouTube videos on bending and flaring tubing. Buy extra tube to practice on.

So these lines are not pre-made? With the correct fittings on them? maybe that's why the line was cut and a rubber hose was installed...

I was thinking that as well. She did not tell us what truck she has, and I don't have it here with me to look at, but I think my ranch truck (95 F150 302) has the same setup.

Plus she said she was on a budget.

Some where on site is/are instructions on changing trans fluid & the process is taking the hose loose & pouring fluid in as fluid pumps out.

Every one of these I've seen has that little piece of hose.

Interesting. I wouldn't have thought a metal line would have a rubber hose connected to it like that...it doesn't look right to me. ('95 F150 5.8L, E4OD trans)

most good parts stores stock rubber tube for transmission line use. it will not fall apart like the rubber fuel line everyone uses because it is cheaper than the trans specific hose.

Power steering pressure hose is what I replaced mine with. Think it's 5/16. You ask for trans hose, you sometimes get told "no such thing" for your truck.

Yeah, I was gonna ask about that. I have seen how dumb some of these auto parts stores can be.

The hose is Transmission Cooler hose / Power Steering return hose
Yes, 5/16"
The rubber was factory on some applications (by the radiator) (just a few inches for flex)
