Actually have two trucks with a similar problem. Both are 2000 5.4, one F150, one Navigator. The Navigator has the problem more frequently, like every time you turn it off.
Replaced the fuel pump and filter this weekend. That cleared the code and solved the immediate problem(intermittent dying while driving). But now, it starts OK cold, but if you turn it off briefly - like to run into a convenience store - it won’t start back up. If you wait 10-15 minutes, it starts up fine and will run until you shut it off again. Not throwing any codes.
I’m flummoxed. Anybody run into this before or know what might be going on and how to confirm/fix?
Do you smell fuel? If so, a leaking fuel injector can cause a temporary flooding like condition. If not, it could be a heat issue. Next time it won't start try and opening the hood to let heat escape faster. If the start time drops from 10-15 minutes to say, 5-10 minutes, then something is not handling the engine heat very well.
