altering from o.e.m.

i used to have a "thing" that made me want to stay all original and stock but then i thought " if im improving on the original design and making it better than was possible in 1970 , wouldn't that be the ultimate compliment to the original builder? so now i do whatever i feel like and its definitely one of a kind . thats my current opinion and im willing to change my mind . you can cal me crazy , i dont mind

I make improvements often myself, I bought the truck for my use, not the next owner's use. I had to figure some things out, correct some things, etc ... next owner can do it too. I get tickled when reading rants about a PO's doings .... it was theirs then ... you bought it, it's yours now.

I like original.
I'm not changing much on my '76 from original/stock.
About the only things I changed is I did go with a bigger engine and tires.
Other than that its pretty stock.

Oh, and I added intermittent wipers.
Those are a must have.

All three are huge improvements over original/stock.

id rather make it

made some aluminum emblems that came out cool , a 400m with 3 checker flag and red border , that "400" one i bolted over the "edelbrock" name on the filter lid , working on a cobra one now , im using a guitar amp panel for my switch panel fuse box , made my own simplified harness , pvc filter is a mag light tube and foam it looks like a silencer kinda

the driver side emblem i painted up a litle and black rtv it just over the fender seam , its faded some though

It's "different". Why the compressor table plate? Could put a box with lid there to keep supper warm on the way home from the Arby's ... or while driving the back roads looking for "the spot" to enjoy a picnic. A sealed ammo box for example.

hi lead driver , that bracket provides spacing for the power steering pump , i thought about doing something different but it turns out i somehow need both belts to make it all work , i do stand on it regularly though

On a collector car it's resale suicide to stray far from original unless you're going full high dollar custom. on these rigs they're so plentiful and reasonably priced it really doesn't matter. but nice originals or tastefully done lightly modified examples will climb in value while the kidderized lag behind and stall out.

For now it's whatever turns your crank. I'm lucky I like original, so I get the best of both worlds.

I am all for "it's yours so build it the way you want it"

Some stuff done to others is not my cup of tea but it is not mine and I dont have to look at it or drive it.
It is the same at shows. I may see something that got my eye but as I look it over and see something I dont like (Ford with a bow tie motor
I walk away.

I have a 81 F100 flare side 4x2 with a 300 six.
I did a 4 year cab off rebuild. I like to build my stuff close to factory stock and if I make a change it would be hard to pick up unless you knew that model really good.
Dual tank (rear) on my flare that was never an option using factory parts looks factory, metal ribbed bed floor replacing wood floor, fog / driving lights add into the front bumper (can not buy it like this) and shaved the bumper bolts front & rear, EFI EXH manifolds and 1994 F150 pipes to the rear (larger than 81 system). And the last added over drive to the NP435 transmission.

Everything can be returned to factory if wanted but why?
Yep build it like you want it

Great job too .... but I guess we won't be seeing you do a long anticipated "LS Swap" in it though? I was looking at the 2023 Vol 2 edition LMC catalog again last night, the BBC/700R4 in the blue/white '77 2wd F-150 with C-I hood ... I gotta say, it appeals to me ... more than a 460 even. Badging just looks a bit "gawdy" ... but I'd get used to it easy enough. Really though, I'd look at removing the one on hood front.

Thanks on the job
You are right on a LS swap unless it is going in a GM

I dont have issues with motor swaps with in the same makes but to do the LS swap that EVERYONE DOSE is just lazy in my book.
I have always been the "under dog" in things I have done.
Raced a Toyota L/C off road when everyone ran Jeeps.
Auto crossed a Datsun when there were others running higher HP cars.
Also drag raced AMC cars when others ran Chevys & Fords.

Heck I am the only 80's Ford truck at any of the shows I go to that there may be 1 or 2 chevys
Yep under dog and why blend in

But you kept it all Ford and I dont have any issues with that.
I did a 68 Cougar body on a 69 Ford Bronco frame back in the early 80's using all Ford parts to do it.

While I can certainly appreciate restoration, especially where a great deal of talent and effort goes into understanding exactly what "original" means and then finding or fabricating whatever is required to bring the vehicle close to that state of being, I personally like to modify things to better represent my own needs and sensibilities. There are mods that enhance functionality and there are mods that enhance the aesthetics of a vehicle. I find the challenges involved in both of these to be very interesting and satisfying when achieved. So, "different strokes for different folks." It's all good if it makes you happier.

I painted my Edelbrock open air cleaner Ford blue and put an original style 460 decal on it. I like the look and it flows better than stock. I do have the stock housing but need to sandblast it and repaint. It will get re-installed at some point.

Added a new steering wheel as the original was in good shape but the actual wheel was so skinny that it was uncomfortable to grip for my non petite hands.

Also went with Bluetooth stereo from Retro Sound. Looks original but modern features which I like.

I have no issue with upgrading factory parts but am trying to keep my truck close to stock as possible.
