Hey all, I am currently wanting to build a 460 for a pulling motor in a 1990 F350. It has EFI, and I assume I'm going to need to change that over to carb for any real performance to be made. My question is regarding the cubes I should run. Here's the class rules: "6,200 pounds maximum weight with driver. 565 Ci maximum engine displacement, 2 valves per cylinder. Gasoline or alcohol allowed. 31-inch pulling or 36-inch DOT tires. 133-inch maximum wheelbase."
My question is should I push it with a 557" kit, or run safely down with a 514" or 545" kit? Any thoughts?
My other question is would it make sense to build the kit to have fun at a lower power level/lower class and be able to utilize it for mudding as well? My plan is to run different tires for the pull and mudding, but I don't know if that makes sense given the differences between the two sports.
Thanks!
- Chris

Run the largest engine you can run within the rules. Do they require a production block? If not then having a bore larger than 4.440 will really help but right now the SVO and Eliminator blocks are thin on the ground.

I'm sorta new to the BBF with EFI, is there any way I can make a good pulling motor utilizing the factory EFI or would running it carbed be much cheaper and easier?
A carburetor would be easier and cheaper. And make more power most likely. What are the limitations on the cylinder heads and intake manifold? Is a 4500 carburetor allowed? Do they allow headers? Flat tappet or roller cam?

From what I have seen, it has to be a 2v per cylinder head, naturally aspirated, and under 565 cubes. Past that point I think I can go whole hog on whatever I want. I'll double check with the league today.
