I've used this on all my trucks slide pins and never had one freeze up.
I use the same grease, but in a tub. I thoroughly clean the guide pin and then apply the grease. I do try to clean out the slide, but I haven't used brake parts cleaner for that.
I looked in my version of the 2017 service manual and nowhere can I find explicit instructions for maintaining the guide pins. In fact, while they do mention "Silicone Brake Caliper Grease", it's only in the context of the emergency brake shoes and the leaf springs. This is the closest I can find to what might be instructions for maintenance of the guide pins. But I think the lubricant they're referring to is for the back of the pads, not the guide pins.
If installing new brake pads, make sure to install all new hardware
and lubricant supplied with the brake pad kit. Refer to the brake pad
instruction sheet when applying lubricant.
