I recently purchased a 2001 Ranger 4x4 XLT that the previous owner had installed a blue/green EL face instrument panel overlay.
Obviously, to install it, he had to remove the tach and speedometer needles.
I'm not sure if they were reattached properly, to give the correct readings for each one.
Does anyone know what the procedure to reattach the needles to the gauges are (so that the gauges are accurate), or if they work with whatever sensors they are attached to give an accurate reading.
You can go out on the interstate highway with a stopwatch. Set the cruise control where your needle is reading exactly 60 miles per hour. Time how long it takes between mile posts. Should be 60 seconds between each milepost. Do this for a few miles to be sure.
That will tell you if your speedo is inaccurate and how much it's off.
In order to put the overlay on top of the speedometer/tach portion of the instrument panel the needles had to come off. On the other sides (gas & temp and oil & battery) one could slip the overlay under the needles, but because the needles for the speedometer and tach are so long, one would have to remove them to place the overla on the faceplate.
