Battery light stays on, if I unplug the alternator the light comes off, plug it back in light stays on.. alternator is good, (just replaced it) batteries are good (new) battery cables are good, pcm is new, bcm is also new, tore out the wire harness, it's also good, checked all fuses also good, cleaned all the grounds and added new ground also.. currently looking at the gage cluster, if that isn't it then I'm out of ideas.... I am stumped and annoyed with this customers truck.. PLEASE HELP HAHA

The cool thing (not really) is that the 02-03 7.3s rely on the PCM for alternator field control AND the light in the cluster.
However, the regulator in the alternator is what grounds the circuit for the warning indicator when it's no good. Lots of aftermarket alternators have issues with the regulator attachment screws coming loose and falsely tricking the regulator into thinking something is amiss even though the charging portion works fine.
I have an 02 that had a problem with the battery light coming on. It ended up being the plug in the back of the alternator. Replaced that, and it’s been good for years.
