loud knock

loud knock

I need some advice. My 88 bronco has a real bad knock and I cant figure it out. I replaced the mains and that wasn't it. I thought it might be the tourqe converter, allthough it did need to be replaced that wasnt it. What can make a knock like this it only knocks when I rev it up or put it in gear. Can a bad smog pump cause any thing like this? the day it first happened the end of my cat was clogged (no muffler right out of the cat) with a big piece of the honey comb stuff. what could that have done? sorry about the length, any thing would help

If it onlu does it under load then I would begin checkingfor a bent rod or excess lashing in the rocker arms.

Ok is it when. Let's say. When you are driving and all of sudden you let off the gas and you hear a knock. Because mine is doing the same thing. So if anyone knows mine let me know Too.

Hoodlum, on yours I would check to see how rich your engine is running. Yours sounds like run on knocking.

You said it all right there, your catalitic converter is toast. since that piece became dislodged the rest of the honeycomb is now rattling around the cat making that noise. It won't effect your motor too much but it will remain embarassing to drive around until you replace that cat.
