1276 and 1278

Hi everyone
2001 f350 7.3
Did replace all 8 glowplugs and injectors orings, decided to change valve cover gasket with harness (Mishimoto)
Had initially issue with driver side gasket
Found gp #6 high resistance, replaced,
Than found gp #6 open on harness, replaced whole gasket on warrantwarrOn the very first start which was the very first crank started in 20 seconds
Was concerned with sound as i could hear very brief short/spark like sound from passenger side somewhere
Reviewed 42 pin connection, questioned couple rubbed off slightly wires, taped them
Started was hessitant, running ok, went for short drive, got momentary service light
got p1276 and 1278, quieter on 6,8 injector did idm wire tests
3.1 ohms resisted on all except #6 and 8 where i got 2.3 ohms
Thanks for listening, my first post, any ideas ?
Thank you

Welcome to FTE!

Can you do a buzz test on it?

If 6 and 8 are not buzzing you could swap the solenoids with 2 and 4, see if the problem follows. Although when they go bad you get higher resistance, not less. Or maybe those wires are sorta pinched to ground?

Sounds like you had wires rubbed thru on the underside of the 42 pin harness. Can you get pics of that?

Tell us more about the gaskets you replaced. Brand, where you got them etc. There is a variety of quality on the market, plus counterfeits.

Keep at it you'll get there!

Welcome to FTE!

I would start but putting the original gasket and harness back on. You know the originals were working so get this aspect out of the equation.

I wouldn’t mess with the solenoids just yet because it’s too coincidental for both solenoids to be acting up suddenly at the same time.

Update

Disconnected valve cover plug, found same resistance results(lower on 6,8)
checked continuity from valve cover connector all the way to idm plug, all readings for injectors 2,4,6,8
are 0.6 ohms and stable
removed valve cover, checked harness wiring resistance good low and stable 0.2 to 0.3 ohm
connected old harness that was open on gp wire only and got good results on injectors 6 and 8
Conclusion it is not selenoid
is it another mishimoto gasket with harness ?
Unfortunately i may have made expensive mistake and threw away originals
Oh forgot to mention wiring seem ok, only 2 wires that found previously rubbed were taped
I guess i am going to take a day or two to decide
I have one more new gasket
The only question is is there possibly something else that could be causing it?
Like idm ?
Because really ? 2nd new gasket deffective?

Yes. I have been reading of a lot of issues with new gaskets. Even genuine motorcraft has been having some problems. Enough so that at least some of us on the forum have not been recommending replacement of the gaskets as an PM item and instead only replace if there is an actual issue.

It's alive

So i made a decision to use my last mishimoto gasket that they send as warranty replacement and no codes
Put all back together went for short than 100km ride
I am in western Canada for friends down south that is 62 miles.
Probably lost a few hair and some time but yes often newer is not better
Thank you for your suggestions and opinions
Cheers

Dipstick adapter? That’s fairly common and the guys around here have a few solutions for it. Recently there was an eBay company selling knock offs of an expensive fix for cheap. Maybe make another thread to ask them about it? Or we can go digging with the (bad) search feature.

I'm afraid it is oil pan gasket at the back, had mechanic confirm for me, same guys said we do not work on 7.3
Gave me contact for quote, lets just say i just about to fell off a chair.
For now i am topping up(it is very small leak for now)
Seen some guys on youtube raising cab and engine few inches each
For now will relax

Top side oil leaks are often misdiagnosed as rear main or oil pan gasket leaks. The valley drain hole is in the back on the passenger side. Any fluid up there will drain down the back side of your engine.

Take a very good look up top.
EBPV under the turbo is a common source.
Turbo pedestal is another.
There are some oil rail plugs in the back of the heads.
Fuel line leak also pretends to be an oil leak.
