I know that I saw a thread on a non-working gauge reading empty and mine is driving me nuts as I replaced the fuel pump and that thing on the rear axle and gauge is still not working.
I tried resetting it at the steering wheel. What am I missing?? I carry a gallon in the truck bed but if I run out of gas at night on a busy road, I could get hit. At 77, I wouldn't make it!

You need to see if the signal is getting to the cluster. I havent looked into the wiring path from the fuel tank. You should print that path out and look for damage under neath truck or perhaps the connector under driver side that gets dirty corroded .
Your fpdm on rear axle should not come into play . Rats and squirrels are hell on wiring .
What I don't understand is the connector under drivers side, it doesn't show on this diagram . Yet i know the cab is capable of being removed by unplugging most of the wiring , the shops prefer removing cab for a lot of deep work on the engines/drive train .
So I have been told.
Someone can enlighten us . I dont know the code connector name for that under drivers side .
I'd first look for a wiring problem by examining the wires near the pump, between the pump and the FPDM (on rear axle), the wire connector there, then the wires running forward, probably under the driver's side, plastic, door trough covers.
If no problem was found I'd next check the fuel gauge wire leaving the fuel pump for power with the key on.
If you do this and there is power on the wire from the fuel gauge, let us know if you need more suggestions.
there is a plug on the frame rail under the truck, under the drivers seat... You can unplug and jumper with a resistor and see if the gauge moves from empty to full... You can measure the resistance on the wire from the tank and see if the level indicator is connected........... there are a couple videos on You Tube..

I have been off the computer for a while as I had some surgery on my left eye and thought that I just had cataracts but needed to see a retina specialist first. Will have surgery on right eye on the 30th if everything is ok. Then I need to get new glasses. I can read larger print but not smaller print. Not allowed to get eyes wet and can't get any dirt in them. I wear swimmer's goggles to shower.
A buddy of mine was able to move the gauge with a shop computer. I am at the point that I probably will need to win the lottery to get someone to fix it for me. I don't think that I can afford to take it to a Ford Dealership to have it fixed! I may have to wait until spring to get this resolved. Life was a lot easier when I just rode a cycle, but it gets too cold for me to ride come by the end of October.
I also have a check engine light on, and this just started: In order to go into reverse I have to put it into park first. I like this truck and there is no rust and under 70,000 miles on her. I don't know,
my truck isn't black, I don't have a black cat, but I do have a witch that lives behind me but that's another story.
I really appreciate all your input. This has just been a bad year for me.
