2017 6.7 squirrel damage fixed.

Started the truck today and immediately it was idling way high. Has not had the update (wouldn’t do any good). Everything else seemed fine. Shut off and looked under hood. Found squirrel damage around fuel filter connections and surrounding area. Also damage to insulation on the pipe/hose insulation.

So, what is the wire connector just in front of the fuel filter? Some sort of sensor? It was damaged and I taped it. It was broken once before and didn’t affect the way it ran. Also what is the pipe or hose in the middle of the picture with the insulation on it? Radiator/ cooler hose or CAC? It is collapsed, definitely not normal.

Started the truck again and it idles fine. Can it be driven to repairs?

Updated: idled the truck for a while and runs fine. No leaks, codes etc. The hose is no longer collapsed.

Looks like the rodent treated your engine compartment like a buffet. The chewed up section on the fuel hose is no big deal. You can order a set of fuel filters and it will include that snap-on addition to the connector.

The wires, I have no idea. The hose insulation isn't a big deal either, but it might be nice to replace it for appearance.

Like a Sunday buffet. I just replaced fuel filters within last 5k, maybe wasted if I can’t get the clips alone. No leaks apparent.

I think I figured out (in the picture) I have L to R cold charge pipe, radiator hose with insulation then a charge pipe. Could the soft radiator hose be normal on a cold engine? Hose felt normal after running. No leaks apparent. The very high idle was quite unusual, never did it again.

I do now have a CEL and the A/C compressor won’t kick in. All other HVAC works. Outside temp display shows -40 F which may prevent A/C? I’ve read elsewhere it can affect it. I did find other damage on the other side of engine bay. I’ll add a pic. Right side on firewall.

A collapsed hose may be indicative of an old hose that is looking to be replaced. But on a 2017 it seems a bit early unless you have a lot of miles.

I have read on here that a collapsed top radiator hose is slightly “common.” I have also read to correct it, replace your coolant reservoir cap.
My 2017 6.7 had a collapsed top hose first thing in the morning, after a cold soak and I initially didn’t even realize it due to the insulation wrap. Replaced the cap and hose is back to normal.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like the hose issue is unrelated to other issues. I’ll probably go ahead and replace the cap. The fuel line clips are an easy fix. Hopefully the wiring repairs will solve the other issues.

I had a list of upgrades and maintenance I was getting ready to to including cold charge pipe, DPK and CCV replacement. Just have to see how much the damage is from this. Truck just turned 48k and has had regular maintenance.

My 19 has the same thing with the upper hose collapsing. I asked the dealer, said not to worry about it.

Fixed

Since posting I figured out everything that was going on. Decided to leave the radiator hose alone for now and order a new reservoir cap and see if that fixes it. Thanks for the feedback. It’s normal after running.

Never did figure exactly what caused the super high idle. Thinking it may be related to the temp readout measuring-40 ( due to wiring damage) which probably also caused the A/C compressor to not kick in.

Cost just under $800 to get it sorted and fixed. Almost all labor. Got to give a shout out to my local dealer service department. There’s a lot of negative opinions and experiences with dealers and many are valid. Mine has always treated me well. Dropped it off on Thursday night, they called Friday morning and said they could fix the damage without ordering parts. Had it done Friday before quitting time. I didn’t like the $150/hr labor but considering they turned it around in less than 24 hours and didn’t sell me parts (harness, sensor fuel filter kit etc.) and they gave me a ride to and from the shop I figured it was worth it. It’s a lot less than $85k and taxes for a new one! No payments on this one.

Now I’m just trying every rodent counter measure I’ve heard of and looking for new ones!
