That 4 speed is all spur gears. Operation involves double clutching. The F1 3 speed options have helical gears {excepting the heavy duty option that has spur 1st and rev) and doesn't have the complications of double clutching through all the gears.
All the transmissions have their highest gear as a 1.0 ratio gear.

There are a couple of things you can do for better highway speeds. Otherwise, as bmoran4 said, keep what you have.
1. Run taller tires (16" with a profile like 215/85 that has a stiff sidewall)
2. Change out the differential for a lower gear ratio ( I run a Ford 9" with 3.50 gears instead of the 4.27 stock differential)
