I just got a '56 column off ebay for my panel. When I got it in the truck it seems like its short, like it was shortened for a hot rod or something. Anybody have one laying around the could measure? any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm thinking it must be a 57-60 column, because I cant see any seems or cut marks on the tube. I have a tube out of a '56 truck, that was torched off at the steering box, and its at least 2-3 inches longer even though this one is missing some off the bottom. The bolt holes for the box to frame line up, I was thinking the flange was different on those?
Well check that, it must be a shortened '53-'56, as the steering box flange bolts right up. In looking at pics of stock 56's and 57-60s, this is way shorter than either. Looks like about 6" is missing.
I realize I'm coming a bit late to the party here, but I'm looking to change the worm gear on our 1956 F250 steering box.
I see in the discussion above that it is said that the steering shaft is longer on a 1956.
I just want to change the worm gear itself.
Are all the worm gears the same on these 53 to 56 trucks regardless of the length of the shaft?
I would like to reuse the shaft that I have but I'm wondering if there is a special worm gear for the 1956.
thank you
