I'm sure the OP is a big boy and can make this decision himself for whatever reason he has for doing it. Speed limits are 85mph in parts of the country. Maybe he's hitting the drag strip. Maybe he's making dyno runs. Maybe he just wants to rob a bank and prepare for a hot pursuit...
And 100mph is nothing in a SuperDuty, when 70,000+ pound tractor trailers are doing 70-80mph all day every day.
I vote "waste of money." The Super Duty is not the truck you want if going faster than 96mph is important to you (no judgement here, I get it). I like the idea of taking a powerful truck and making it better, but this truck is optimized for capacity and you'll be fighting that distinction into frustration forever.
on my 2016 my tuner adjusted the speed limiter while dyno tuning otherwise we couldnt run the truck all the way out in 4th, that was somewhere between 117 and 120 mph. My truck is tuned using hp tuners.
Fact of the matter is these trucks are NOT built for speed. If you're wanting to run that fast on the highway, you might want to consider buying pretty much anything else. These things are literal bricks rolling down the road. I get removing it for dyno tuning or for drag racing at a track but otherwise there isn't much point.
Its not worth it but if you must wait till after your warranty is up! the trucks computer has the ability to track and record anything out of the normal and is something happens and they see that safety features have been bypassed you will be paying out of your own pocket on warranty issues!
As well as that random dear that you might end up sharing the cab with!
My truck must ride a lot better than everyone else's. I have found myself tooling along numerous times and found that I'm doing 90mph with other vehicles. Of course the speed limit in rural Utah is 80mph on the freeway so 90+ is pretty common. Having said that, I only touched the speed limiter once, just to try it...
Rolling freight train and no quick way to stop it especially over 96 MPH. I prefer super quick 0-60 and massive torque.
these trucks (F450s) weigh a lot, typically over 9,000 lbs “unloaded”. Increasing the speed of travel from 70 mph to 90mph (+28%) yields a +66% increase in kinetic energy. Energy that has to be resisted by tires, brakes, or the Prius in front of you.
As far as I know the 450and 550 are limited to 80 mph. At least my cc 550 is. But my 350kr did 94 or 96 before I tuned and deleted it. I’ve had it up to 126 with no issues. No I don’t do it all the time but tires would be the first limiting factor and stopping would be as well.
