I am thinking about buying an excursion. It is a 2000 Limited w/24000 milesand is a diesel. The X looks good but I am concerned w/ the rumors of ending the X SUV's all together. Does anyone have any thoughts?
First of all, I am not concerned w/ the production ending in '04. My "big brother" just pointed it out. I moved to the NW from Detroit and have many family members LOYAL to GM - It may have something to do w/ the employee discount. I am the only Ford guy and proud to say that I have never own anything but a Ford.
I was pretty surprised w/ the X. I drove it Thursday and since I own a SD. I could compare the two on likes and differences. I was happy with the turning radius of the X. Much better than my SD for turning into a parking space. I don't know about other parts of the country, but here in Seattle, the parking spaces are shrinking and parking structures are NOT designed for SD. Generally, 6'4" is the only height they use.
Are you happy w/ your X? What are your likes and dislikes about it? I have been a truck guy for some 17 years and have no history with any SUV.
My 2002 Excursion PSD is my daily driver , and I have not one complaint as of yet. I have found out that backing into parking spaces is allot easier than the "swing" of pulling into them. This is actually the first ford product i have ever owned , and I am still a GM loyal when it comes to cars/high performance, but i think i am goingto stick with Ford for trucks.....
Absolutely love the truck itself! Extremely versatile, but if I'm taking anyone to the airport I either drop them off or take the car since I'm at 8' 2" at the highest point. With three kids and animals who all like the outdoors, couldn't have made a better purchase. Could have made a cheaper one, but not better.

2k X lmt on Weld 16 x 10 'phoons w/35 x 12.5 AT's. Pro Comp/Liftmaster 6" lift and 6x Rancho 9000's, Superchips 1715 tuner, K&N intake, AirRaid throttle body spacer, cat back 3" sst exhaust into FM70 big block, 2.5" dual out.
I have a 2001 7.3 PSD only 12K miles. Picked it up in June as a leftover. It's my commuter vehicle and gets 130 miles added to it each day. It is also my primary tow vehicle, pulling a 32' 8K lb trailer. Been heeding the advice of this forum since I got my X and made several improvements. First was a rear sway bar, definitely helps handling and towing. Second K&N filter. Other enhancements are more for the passengers than for the driver. I plan to work the exhaust and get a microtuner to improve MPG. Currently 17 to 18 on the commute as long as I keep the tach below 2K, towing around 10-12 depending on route and agian keeping that tach below 2K. My last tow was a large part stop and go so my MPG went down to 10. Other than that I love the beast.
