I didnt have to trim the bottom, i did dremel a 1/8 or 1/4 inch off the lip above the radio opening, but that is pretty much invisible, its because fords radio size is a few milimeters shorter vertically than standard double din, but if you have a small dremel, its easy work.
.... snip ...
Also, i strongly recommend you get one of these, to bring 2 of its USB ports to a place on the dash face of your choice, that way you don't have to dig under the dash or slide it out to plug in a flash drive, or other accessories. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
thank you so much,
I have the METRA adapter here now, I was going to use it to move the old radio to the new dash bezel....
now, I am going to wait for the Xtron radio to arrive,
I paid for Express Shipping because my time here in Dawsonville is extremely limited, and I hoped to get it in two (2) days....
but, those folks are in Hong Kong, sigh....
hope the Express shipping gets here before Saturday in 10 days... or PJ won't have time to help me.
another thing i did to make it easier to type on the android unit, was i got one of these, so if i needed to type out an email or anything long it was a little easier.
You can plug the little usb piece into one of the USB ports and then use it to type on the unit without having to use the touch screen, on some models the touch pad works too and a mouse pointer will appear on the screen so you can use that to navigate on the android unit all from the keyboard, which is nice for second row people.
you just have to keep spending my money, don't you
Tnx for that idea,
I use a Plug USB Keyboard all the time for my Laptop, because the internal kybd is defunct now, 2/3rds of the keys don't respond anymore.
I am a touch typer, and sometimes, hit 120 wpm, and I hit the keys HARD...
simply because they are Membrane keys and do NOT register half strokes.
I have been looking for a nice Hall Effect kybd for a long time.
I just loved the one I used in Crypto for the Air Force, that was on a KSR-128 teletype
probably got the nomenclature wrong, that has been some 55 years ago now
you did not mention how long it took to get yours delivered 2 years ago?
Free delivery,
or Express? and if so, how long was the trip over the Pond
it didn't take too long, i know there were no shipping issues and i dont think it was late such that i had to contact them to track it down, but as for how many days it took, i dont remember....
I purchased this EinCar 7 Inch Car Stereo Android 7.1 2GB 32GB Head Unit Double Din Head Unit back in 2007 from Amazon. I just checked and they are not available anymore, which is good as they now have much better ones now.
For some reason, the link to my installation did not show. 2004 Excursion
I used the Metra Wire and Metra Trim kits with a little filing of the dash to get the radio to fit properly.
I cant say much about the following but they look a lot like the EinCar unit I have.

Anyone else have a suggestion for an Android like this. I remember there was a guy building/programming these that people seemed to like. Lost the link.
I like those bigger screens that some are using, but I did not want the screen to get in the way of any of the controls or A/C vents. Mine also came with the backup camera, and I've been through several replacements and had the cameras in several positions. I used the Ex to tow my enclosed car trailer so when it was connected, or I was backing up to connect I liked to watch the hitch ball. For internet on the road I got a plan that has unlimited data, and then turned on my phone's hotspot to supply the HU with data. I do not stream music but used my Sirius XM radio which I piped through the HU. Wazy always worked like a champ. I had an amplifier and box speaker for the back of the Ex, but hardly ever used it. The HU with the factory speakers always sounded good to me. But then I did not have the need to hear my music 50 feet from the Ex. :-)

that is why, up until now, I have refused to get a Tablet sized screen.
with the recommended and I bought, it will Rotate and the vents will be open to passengers.
for me, that backup camera over looking the trailer hitch, is the best thing since sliced bread.
I have a separate, dedicated Rear View Video camera permanently mounted on the rear of the Toy hauler, I can see traffic behind me for half a mile.
For my trailer, I put a camera on each side about 1/2 way down along the roof line looking back, one camera at the back of the trailer, and 1 camera inside the trailer. Using a hardwire to a quad view display that I have on a gooseneck cup holder mount, I can see both sides and behind my trailer. The cabling to the truck is a little annoying, but to have the view and see where all the other traffic is around that trailer is totally worth it.

you and I have the same exact camera setup, my Viewer will record all 4 channels.
I bought 2 cameras, and intended to put one on the dash, never got that done, already have a small Garmin with Alerts on it, so didn't need that in case LEOs want to look.
A few years back I learned when looking into plug and play head units for our Excursions if you looked up Crown Victoria's on Alibaba/AliExpress you would find units that are plug and play with Excursions, or just require a harness adapter.
I'd linkb the old post where I list them, but most are dead links now ( I just checked them all) there is a French company that has a nice head unit still, a bunch of Chinese versioms (all the same thing basically) and the guy on E-bay ( I forget his name without looking it up Oscar I believe, I last talked to him before Covid, years ago) who makes it painless plug and play with a multitude of options for the latest Android version. I had found out hisbupplier in my research but he barely makes anything the way he sells it, so I won't say where he gets them from, they are not plug and play the way he sells them, I think he makes $20 extra a unit. That $20 he can have for the 6 hours of searching it takes to figure out the setup and provide the stuff to do it.
Or if you want to pick something yourself and need pinouts to make it work let me know. I have every pinout saved for all years of the Excursuon productions so anyome can wire anything they can think of.
